The equation is actually

1.4 + 1.4 = 2.8 1.4 + 1.4 = 2.8

The physicist rounded it off to obtain

1 + 1 = 3. 1 + 1 = 3.

"Politicians" and "Biologists" can be correct answers too.

Just ask Lalu Prasad Yadav what 1 + 1 1+1 is! He's probably gonna answer 3 3 .

Biologists could say that its reproduction. Thankfully thats not an option.

What about synergy? Politicians understand that!

@Vishnu C I am actually gonna go for synergism of Politicians. lol

Jeffrel Hermias - 5 years, 11 months ago

LOL.^",*Most of Indian may give answer politicians. Because Indian politician can do whatever he want..lol.

Exactly. I gave for politician too.

Mathematicians could define + as a new operation, giving a new operation table for which 1+1=3.

Jonathan Hoseana - 5 years, 11 months ago

Quite true....:P

This happens i n our physics practical lab work everyday. First we take a very accurate reading with a superb instrument and then we take another with a cheap instrument and just add them

Can't it be mathematicians who know binary and will end up with 11 which is equal to 3 in decimal? After all, it's just for fun.

Spandan Pratyush - 5 years, 11 months ago

1+1 would equal 10 in binary, and 10 in ternary = 3 in decimal

Alvin Wong - 5 years, 11 months ago

10 is 2 in decimal ! 0=0 // 1=1 // 10=2 // 11=3 // 100=4 // 101=5 //

I put Polititians because almost none of them believe in equality ;)

Easel Kandola-McNicholas - 5 years, 11 months ago

Oh, LOL , I did it the same way !

Swapnil Das - 5 years, 11 months ago

I answered Politicians because I had just finished reading 1984 :P 2+2=5!!!!

Alex Li - 5 years, 11 months ago

Hey! That's synergy! Something that politicians would understand!

vishnu c - 5 years, 11 months ago

Fascinating insights!

1 + 1 = 3 ; Can be solve also by genius or famous mathematicians of all time. Although it would be a long term method math. >.<. I hope you get my point.

or the clown is more educated than he leads on and simply counts in a different number base. babylonians were known to have a base 60 method of counting vs our basic base 10.

That's weak, dude. I'm guessing you don't know too many physicists. Or the concept of significant figures.

1+1 = 2 is actually the definition for 2. So according to a mathematician he can design a number system where 1+1 = 3 ie. you first start with two numbers 0 and 1 in your system. Then you start exploring the number 1+1. Prove that 1+1 != 0 and 1+1 != 1. Hence it is a new number in the system. Let us call it 3 (2 is just a convention followed throughout the world).

'1' , '+' and '1' . total three characters according to programer

Well. I can't argue with that logic. +1

I think its a really basic question...instead of focusing on 1+1=3, focus on the word "why?" Physicists spend all their lifetime in finding out answers of why things happen the way they happen. So, if we assume 1+1=3 , only Physicists could explain it, because they would understand it.

a programmer can understand it as (1,+,1) are 3 characters

-6 = -6; 4-10 = 9-15; add 25/4 both side; 4-10+ 25/4 = 9-15 +25/4; 2^2 -(2 2 5/2) + (5/2)^2 = 3^2 -(2 3 5/2) + (5/2)^2; or, (2 - 5/2)^2 = (3- 5/2)^2; or, 2- 5/2 = 3- 5/2; or 2=3; or 1+1 = 3 ;
