Details and Assumptions :

  • Treat the pulley as a disc.

  • The block and pulley are oscillating in the same phase with the same frequency.

  • Pulley has sufficient friction for Pure Rolling and mass=m & strings are light and inextensible.

  • Gravity is present.

  • Zig-zag lines in fig represents spring of spring constant k k and 2 k 2k as shown.

  • a is a square-free integer and the fraction is in simplest form.

Considering the situation when everything is in equilibrium , then displacing the block a little .

Let us consider only those extra forces that will tend to bring the block back . ( Rest all forces will be in balanced condition all the time )

It will be interesting if anybody can answer - How can we justify that their exist a linear relationship between x1 and x2? .

I didn't understand your question...What do u mean by "justify"? Doesnt a physical visualization of the motion of the bodies tell us this?

Hey it was asked to find b+a.I too got the same ans and entered it a 33+9=42.

I also 1st entered 42 and then I thought may be he wanted to ask a + b + c so I entered 58.

You also publish the report, so that the people may be aware ( as 2 reports add that message to the question )

a=63 , b=-3, c=12 , so a+b+c=72
