Magic Equation

Algebra Level 3

During a party the Master of Ceremonies announces to the audience that he has magic powers which will enable him to find out any number any guest thinks of.

He requests the guests to think of any number between 1 and 100.

He says

Add two to the number.

Multiply the resulting number by 5.

He then requests the guests to tell him the final number. ,When the guests tell him.their answer he tells them.the number they thought off. But a professor in the crowd tells everyone that the MC is just using an equation to figure out the number thought of by the guest based on the answer provided.

If X is the number thought of by the guests and Y is the final answer obtained after the sequence of steps done above ,which equation best fits the relationship between Y and X.

X*5+10 = Y X*5. + 5 = Y X= O.2Y - 2 5X + 2 = Y

Very easy to see that (X + 2)*5 = Y.

So 0.2Y-2 = X

(X+2)*5=Y,5X+10=Y,why is that option incorrect?
