Since the ball is continuously under the influence of gravitational pull of the earth , at every instant of its journey , the ball was continuously accelerating. At the highest point due to decelaration , the velocity of the ball became zero but it was "still accelerating" and thus , after sometime you will see that the velocity of the ball will eventually increases.
