Possible or not?

Geometry Level 1

A man gave his square land to his whole family. He gave ¼ of his land to his wife.

Is it possible that the remaining land is to be shared equally by his 2 sons and 2 daughters?

Yes, it is possible. The explanation is wrong. Yes, but the wife's land should be reduced. No, it is impossible.

It is possible. Here's something:

Sorry for the irregularities...

You should say something like, "Is it possible that the remaining land is to be divided into identical plots of land to be shared equally by his 2 sons and 2 daughters? Otherwise, the problem becomes a trivial one, there's lots of ways any irregularly shaped piece of land can be divided into 4 plots of equal area. Dividing it into 4 plots of identical shapes is much harder, and often impossible.

The remaining land can be divided into 4 equal parts of identical shape

  1. if we cut the square, in 1/4 by cutting it on sides..
  2. we will get 4 square.. out of which 1 square is for Wife.
  3. cut remaining 3 squares diagonally.. it will divide square in 4 parts..
  4. from 3 squares we will get 12 parts which we can divide among (2 sons and 2 daughters )..

So Its possible :) :)

If the man gave 1/4 of the land to his wife, his 4 kids have 3/4 left to spit equally. That's the same as splitting 75% into 4 parts, which would be 18.75% of the land each. Though it would be hard to split the remaining area by drawing lines on the square, it is possible to split it.

Even if you have said for more than 10 parts, it's always possible.

equal division would be possible among any number, but not in same shape
