A monkey drops a fruit from the top of a tree. He hears the sound of the fruit hitting the ground after 2.057 sec. If the monkey was 19.6 metres above the ground, what is the speed of the sound in the air??

Yes taking initial velocity as 0 and using the equation of motion
s= ut + gt^2/2
we'll get the time and the we'l subtract it from 2.057. the just divide 19.6 to 0.057 to get the speed of sound
Yeah !! sure !! I have always given an upvote to you and your brain. Will a solution of yours stand a chance ?? ha ha !!

Thank you very much! Did you check out my question???

which question ??
You should specify in your problems to use g=9.8m/s/s because when I use 9.81 m/s/s I get 337.8 =(

I will keep that in my mind next time .thank you.

@Dylan Scupin-Dursema – No problem, No need to ask sorry.... It was my mistake that I did not keep the things in my mind which are very important and are essential to the the community of brilliant when they sit to solve my problems. Anyway, did you like the question?

Time taken for the fruit to reach the ground is given by t = g 2 s
s = distance traveled
g = acceleration due to gravity
t = time taken
From which we get t = 9 . 8 2 × 1 9 . 6 = 2 s e c o n d s
Now, we get the time taken for sound to reach the monkey is 2.057 - 2 = 0.057 which is 0.057
Now, apply these values in the formula, Speed = distance/ time
Which is Speed = 0 . 0 5 7 1 9 . 8 = 343.859 = 344(approx.)
