Today is March 20, 2021, and it's the first day of spring! To celebrate, Emma, Fiona, Grace, and Hannah all had a gardening competition. Whoever could plant 100 tomato seeds and water them first would win. They would keep going until second, third, and fourth were decided (when everyone finished doing the task for the competition). Here are your clues to answer the question in bold. 1. Emma was on the podium but didn't get first/2. Fiona got 1st or 2nd/3. Hannah wasn't the slowest or the fastest/4. Emma was slower than Hannah. What number place did Emma get? (If you get it right, comment the places of all of the girls in the gardening contest.)

If Emma was on the podium but didn't get first, she must've gotten second or third, because fourth is off the podium (the podium is the top three). Fiona must've gotten first or second, and Hannah must've gotten 2nd or third as well, because she wasn't the fastest (first) or the slowest (fourth). That means only Grace can be fourth. Then, we know that Fiona must be first. And since Emma was slower than Hannah, Hannah must be second and Emma third. Thus, the answer is 3 / 3rd .
