@Reginald Pilar – If you use the order of operations like BODMAS, then you calculate the multiplication parts first and then add the values. So ---->
( 1 4 × 6 5 ) = 9 1 0 , 4 × 4 7 = 1 8 8 , ( 2 × 4 0 ) = 8 0
Adding them all together, we get ( 9 1 0 + 1 8 8 + 8 0 ) = 1 1 7 8 . These are the people who can accomodate the lifeboats. So, now subtract them from the total 3 3 5 3 people to get the no. of people who couldn't accomodate the lifeboats.
...yeah.. very easy... :)
great! i solved correctly ! :)
i like it men... your good
you r absolutly rite
ulol ang dali
duh!!
I did the same.
14 65=910 4 47=188 40*2=80 people who got lifeboats 910+188+80=1178 all people 3353-1178=2175
I use the same method
answer must be >2175, how about does who will hang on the sides of the boats?

We dont have that information in the problem!! This is a math problem, not a history or philosophy problem. -_-
answer is not determined because if some of the people on the ship knew swimming then the answer would be less . lol..

Actually not, since the ship hit the iceberg near the arctic circle and that too, at night, so the ocean waters are very very cold at that time. As a result, if someone even knew swimming, he/she would die of hypothermia before he/she could even reach the shore and may I point out that the shore is many many miles away, so he/she would need to swim continuously for 23-24 hours, I think..!!
14 MULTIPLY BY 65 = 910 4 MULTIPLY BY 47 = 188 2 MULTIPLY BY 40 = 80 PLUS THESE ALL RESULTS 910+188+80= 1178 NOW CAPACITYOF TITANIC TO HOLD 3353 PASSENGERS THEREFORE 3353 - 1178 = 2175 SO THERE ARE 2175 PEOPLE WOULD WE EXPECT TO GO DOWN WITH THE SHIP IA CATASTROPHE
Please don't shout.
2356 ALMOST
Don't you know Internet Ethics!! Writing in all Caps represents saying something boldly or shouting !!
I got the correct answer but... WAIIIT!!!! IT SAID PASSENGERS!!! THE TOTAL OF PASSENGERS AND CREWS ARE 3353. It only asked how many people will drown. It is not equal for passengers and crews per lifeboat. If we assume that there are more passengers than crews in every lifeboat then i can say our answer is wrong.
I got the correct answer but... WAIT!!!! IT SAID PASSENGERS!!! THE TOTAL OF PASSENGERS AND CREWS ARE 3353. It only asked how many people will drown. If 14 x 65 - passenger wooden lifeboats - save 910 people plus 4 x 47 - passenger collapsable canvas lifeboats - save 188 people plus 2 x 40 passenger emergency cutters - save 80 people. Total of people saved = 2175. Total of people in ship = 3353. People expect to go down with the ship: 3353 minus 1178 = 2175.
Totaled 14x65,4x47,2x40 that is 1178. from total no of persons on ship 3353,subtracted 1178 yhat is 2175 Answer.
You, sir, are 73? :O
Yes Mr Prayaas,I love learning and so keep on interacting with Quiz. Thanks for your Querry
14 * 65 = 910 4 47=188 2 40=80 so, total capacity (a) = 3353, total saved: (b) 910+188+80 = 1178. x=a-b x= 3353-1178 = 2175
14 multiply 65 = 910, 4 multiply 47 = 188, 2 multiply 40 = 80, all is equal of 1178, the passenger on titanic are 3353, 3353 - 1178, 2175 Answer
Simply, people who would go down with the ship are the remaining people who couldn't accomodate the lifeboats and the number of those people are 3353-1178=2175
Man was this a problem? Multiplication and addition?
its simple way to solve this first multiply 14X65+4X47+2X40=1178 then total capacity=3353 -1178=2175
Total capacity=3353 . According to the question, we get the number of people who could accomodate the lifeboats.
No. of people who could accomodate the lifeboats =14 65+4 47+2*40+1178 Now, people who would go down with the ship are the remaining people who couldn't accomodate the lifeboats and the number of those people are 3353-2175
14 65= 910 4 47=188 2*40=80
910+188+80= 1178
3353-1178= 2175
the number of passengers that survived by wooden lifeboats = 14 65=910 passenger the number of passengers that survived bycollapsable canvas lifeboats = 4 47=188 pasenger the number of passengers that survived by emergency cutters = 2*40 =80 passenger so the total survived = 910+80+188=1178 passenger and since the total capacity =3353 so the number od non survived people = 3353-1178 =2175 (the answer)
the number of people that accomodate the wooden lifeboats =14 \times 65 = 910 the number of people that accomodate the collapsable canvas lifeboats = 4 \times 47 =188 the number of people that accomodate the emergency cutters = 2\times 40 = 80 so the total survived passengers = 910+188+80=1178 ,since the total capacity =3353 therefore the number of people that we expect to go down with the ship in a catastrophe =3353-1178 = 2175 persons and this is the answer
Simply multiply each equation then add all the products then subtract it into 3353.
passengers drowned = 3353 - (14 65) - (47 4) - (2*40) = 2175
total no. of people=3353 No. of people accommodate in life boat = 14 65+4 47+2*40=910+188+80 =1178 Now, people who would go down with the ship are the remaining people who couldn't accomodate the lifeboats and the number of those people are 3353-1178=2175
Total capacity=3353 . from the question, we get the number of people who could accomodate the lifeboats.
No. of people who could accomodate the lifeboats =14 x 65 + 4 x 47 + 2 x 40 =1178
Now, people who would go down with the ship are the remaining people who couldn't accomodate the lifeboats and the number of those people are = 3353 - 1178 = 2175
(14 * 65)+(4*47)+(2 * 40)=1178 who can survive using the lifeboats if we subtract this figure from whole the remaining will go down 3353-1178=2175
3353-(14x65 + 4x47 + 2x40)
Multiply the number of life boat to its capacity then add to other products of other lifeboats. 3353 minus the total passengers which is 1178 equals to 2175.
simple : 14 x 65 + 4 x 47 + 2 x 40 = 910 + 188 + 80 + 1178 Those who drowned with the ship are 3353 - 1178 = 2175
given, total no of people= 3353 total no of people who could use life boat = 14 65 + 4 47 +2*40 = 1178 so, no of people who were expected to go down = 3353 - 1178 = 2175
14 * 65=910 4 *47=188 2 * 40=80
add up 910+188+80=1178 3353-1178=2175
Simply, multiply the (14 65),(4 47),(2*40),and then add up all the number of passengers, then finally subtract this amount from total number of passengers, and you get the answer.
3353-(14 65+4 47+2*48)=2175
First, multiply the total number of passengers that can be carried: (14 65) + (4 47) + (2*40) = 1178 Then subtract 1178 by the total number of passenger and crew: 3353 - 1178 = 2175 So 2175 people were expected to go down with the ship.
total capacity in life boats is 1178 and total person in titanic are 3353 so 3353-1178=2175

Total capacity = 3 3 5 3 . According to the question, we get the number of people who could accomodate the lifeboats.
No. of people who could accomodate the lifeboats = 1 4 × 6 5 + 4 × 4 7 + 2 × 4 0 = 9 1 0 + 1 8 8 + 8 0 = 1 1 7 8
Now, people who would go down with the ship are the remaining people who couldn't accomodate the lifeboats and the number of those people are = 3 3 5 3 − 1 1 7 8 = 2 1 7 5
