The first line is not true. x x \frac{ x} { x} is not identically equal to 1. It is equal to 1 only if x 0 x \neq 0 .

there no solution, -1 is not a solution (division by zero)

Note that when you substitute x = 1 x = -1 into the equation, the denominator becomes 0. You cannot divide by 0.

The function x x \frac{x}{x} is not equal to 1 always. It is only equal to 1 if x 0 x \neq 0 .
