What will happen to the gas? - 2

Chemistry Level 2

As the temperature is increased from 2 0 20^\circ to 4 0 40^\circ , the average kinetic energy of neon atoms changes by a factor:

Note: Temperature in Kelvin scale = Temperature in Celsius scale + 273 273 (For this problem)

2 2 ( 313 293 ) \sqrt(\dfrac{313}{293}) 1 2 \dfrac{1}{2} 313 293 \dfrac{313}{293}

K E 1 K E 2 \dfrac{KE_1}{KE_2} = T 1 T 2 \dfrac{T_1}{T_2} Where K E 1 KE_1 and K E 2 KE_2 are initial and final kinetic energies of the gas. Also T 1 T_1 and T 2 T_2 are respectively initial and final temperatures of the gas.

K E 2 KE_2 = = 40 + 273 20 + 273 × \dfrac{40+273}{20+273}\times K E 1 KE_1

= = 313 293 \dfrac{313}{293}

@Skanda Prasad Shouldn't KE1 proportional to T1 ..?

Umm...I don't think so...what I learnt was that KE and T are indirectly proportional...I'll try to confirm on this...

@Skanda Prasad In KTG , K.E. =3/2 kT remember ? From here K.E. is directly prop. to Temperature.

@Saraswati Sharma Oh, yeah...then it will be 293 313 \dfrac{293}{313} , I believe?

@Saraswati Sharma oops, yeah, u r right I'll change it straight away
