While racing, a person who beats the person in the 2nd position will occupy the second position. Thus his position will become 2nd.

You should specify that he passes them during the race. Otherwise the answer should be 1st.

But it's the same whether the person passes or beats the person in second position . If it would say that the person has already beaten the person in second position then it's 1st otherwise it's 2nd .

But the first person beat the second person as well, right?

@Siva Budaraju The first person has already beaten the second person . Imagine that you are in a race and your position is second , what will the position of the person who beats you , it will be second ! And the position of the person who has already beaten you will be first .

@Nashita Rahman I think we have a different definition of "beats". You seem to think that "beats" means "passes." I think "beats" means "Is in a further position at the end of the race." Please change the word "beats" to "passes."

@Siva Budaraju I can understand what you are trying to say .But then what if "passes" also have different meanings for two different people ????

@Nashita Rahman But "passes" is more clear than "beats", because beats clearly has two different definitions.
